        各位親愛的副校長、院長、在座每一位親愛的系主任、各位導師，以及今天的主角--各位親愛的新生們，大家早！

　　首先恭喜各位親愛的新進同學給自己選擇了一個生命值得駐足的好地方，也歡迎你們加入文藻大家庭。文藻是天主教學校，可能與您的信仰不同，但學校今天特別安排了2個小時的開學祈福典禮，校長期許藉由這個活動，你們能體會「文藻真是一個好地方」。今年是文藻創校50週年，也正是台灣高等教育受少子女化考驗最嚴峻的一年，驕傲的是我們以50年來優良的辦學績效創下佳績，註冊率更是近年來表現最好的一年，特別值得一提的是進修部四技的註冊率更高達93.2%，這是其他學校連日間部都達不到的結果。50年來，全體教職員生共同努力，創造了輝煌的歷史交棒到你我的手上，即將跨進第51年之際，校長期望從現在開始的未來50年中，你們能為文藻增添更多的光彩，我有信心你們可以做到的。

　　文藻的校訓是「敬天愛人」，這四個字大家也琅琅上口。但在文藻，「敬天愛人」不是口號，而是落實於日常生活的行為標竿。舉例而言，各位同學參與一個大型活動結束後會順手將垃圾帶走，不會因為以為沒人看到就隨手丟棄或塞在椅子下，又或是將喝完的飲料罐隨手放在校園的花台上，留給辛苦的打掃阿姨幫你整理。我們要存有「敬天」的畏懼之心，因為「天知、地知、你知」，我們都要真誠赤裸的面對自己，及謙遜的面對自己心中的主。初進校園，師長就教導大家要「愛人」，例如，現在坐在你身旁的同學，你根本還不熟識，甚至日常生活中，有些人與你根本天時地利人和都談不上，理念也不同，如何能愛他。可是我們的校訓，「愛人」是一個利他的學習，這是行動後內化的價值。校長信箱時而收到教職員生反應遇到不公平事項，但事實如果與校規不符，校長可以不贊成你們的觀點，但我尊重你發言的自由，我們可以溝通商量，因為文藻是你我共同的家。我拜託在場的師長們能用身教帶領我們的孩子們懂得愛自己、關懷別人，也願意和別人溝通，去體驗「敬天愛人」利他的價值觀，最後內化為個人的道德標準，使自己成為文藻的榮耀。

　　在未來的五年或四年中，你們會常常有機會學習3L（Life, Language, Leadership），因為這是文藻人的特質，我們也安排課程一點一滴教育大家熱愛生命、樂於溝通、具有基督服務領導的精神。2016年我們獲評為全國169所大學分八大類評比中「外語暨傳播類」的第一名，我將這樣的榮譽交棒到各位老師以及各位同學手上，我們以此為榮，但也請大家莫忘初衷，繼續維持傲人的紀錄。

　　此外，在五專生活營以及英語初戀營你們都學到了SERVIAM這個字，其實人都是好逸惡勞、趨吉避凶的，但我們願意花五年或四年培育你們具有「與眾不同」或「不隨波逐流」的人生態度，如同SERVIAM一樣具備「願意服務」的精神，願意彎腰、懂得讚美、懂得欣賞、懂得感恩，懂得服務與付出，發揮個人最神聖的價值。

　　50週年是一個了不起的日子，因為跨越了半世紀並即將跨入另一個半世紀，此刻在座的每一位，我們要勇敢的把棒子接下來，開始啟動另一個新紀元。各位同學，從現在開始，不要為你的失敗找藉口，要為你的成功找方法，我們一起努力讓文藻更好。也預祝大家往後在校園中能快樂的學習，成為一個有價值的人，成為文藻之寶，謝謝大家。

　　Vice President, Deans, Department Directors, Advisors, freshmen and guests, good morning!

　　Firstly, I would like to congratulate the new students, as they embark on their new life journey. Welcome to our Wenzao Ursuline family. Wenzao Ursuline University is a Catholic school and although it may be different from your own religious beliefs, I would still like you to get a true understanding of Wenzao’s spiritual beliefs and the role it has in our school. 

　　This year is Wenzao’s 50th anniversary. Although it has been marked by a year of a particularly low birthrate for students entering their first year of tertiary education, however, our university has had a particularly excellent year.  In fact, with an average enrollment rate of 93.2%, it has been one of Wenzao’s best years to date. This is the highest enrolment of all the technical universities in all of Taiwan and exemplifies the hard work and joint efforts of all the staff and faculty who have created such a legacy over the past 50 years.  As the current President, please be assured that I will work with great earnestness, in order to ensure Wenzao’s continued success over the next 50 years. You too will have a lot to contribute to Wenzao’s success. I have confidence that you will all prevail while you are here.

　　Wenzao’s motto is "Revere the Divine, Love the Human". This is not just a slogan but a way of life at our university. It is exhibited in everybody’s behavior. This can be carried out in simple ways, such as cleaning up after events and throwing away your trash so our hard working cleaning “aunties” do not have to clean up after anyone. Try to show love and respect from the heart. Heaven itself looks down, when we are kind and show humility. Even in our earliest education our teachers have taught us how to love others. Care for all your classmates, even if they come from different geographical locations or have different personalities.  Love is an altruistic behavior, sometimes its value cannot be seen immediately. I often receive emails from students that have complaints or feel they have been treated unfairly. Although we may not agree on everything, Wenzao Ursuline University is our home therefore I respect your freedom to share your opinions. I also welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss these matters.  I believe our teachers not only teach Knowledge, but also teach our students how to be good leaders, to love themselves and care for others. They teach how to communicate, experience respect and carry out altruistic values. Finally, it is when all the students maintain great ethical standards, everyone brings glory to Wenzao.

　　Over the next few years, you will learn about the “three Ls” (Life, Language, and Leadership). This is the very essence of being a Wenzao student. Through every course, you will learn about loving life, effective communication and the spirit of leadership through Christ. In 2016, Wenzao also came in first out of 169 Universities in a “foreign language and communications” competition . This was truly a great honor and news which I proudly delivered to our faculty and students. We must always work toward maintaining a great reputation and high standards in education.

　　In your first English camp, you learned about SERVIAM. Never become lax and always remember Wenzao’s spirit of service. Do not drift from this, even if it is just in giving praise, appreciation and thanksgiving.

　　The school has now been in operation for half a century and is celebrating its 50th anniversary. It is indeed a great year and the dawn of another half century. Remember you will all become future torch bearers for this new era. Don"t make excuses for your own failures, find a way to turn it around and become more successful. Let’s work together to continually make Wenzao Ursuline University greater. I hope you will be happy at Wenzao and that by becoming people of great values and competency, you will all become great ambassadors for the university.
