　　古董事長、各位貴賓、各位師長、家長親友們、以及各位親愛的畢業生與在校生代表，大家好，歡迎大家蒞臨今天的畢業典禮。

　　文藻是全國唯一的外語大學，主要在培育具備複合式能力的語言人才。本校以敬天愛人的吳甦樂教育精神，強調「尊重個人尊嚴，接受個別差異，激發個人潛能，為生命服務。」對文藻來說：我們不僅要「辦好」學校，而且要辦一所「好的學校」；不僅要教出「好人」，也要教出「好的人才」。

　　目前在文藻求學的外籍學子有29個國家，全球姊妹校橫跨35國有274所。國際化程度曾在全國162所大學中名列第5(僅次於「台大、政大、交大、淡江大學」)，文藻的辦學績效持續獲得各界的肯定，在此特別向各位報告2018年本校所獲的榮譽：

　　然而學校現在的成就並不能代表各位畢業生的未來，我一向常喚你們「寶貝」，是提醒你們的尊貴，也提醒我要以這樣的標準治校！但是我們的寶貝於今要步入是非紛擾的社會，會不會吃虧？會不會受苦？身為你們的師長，在此利用最後的機會再叮嚀各位：　

首先，不知道你們有沒有注意學校的詠穌堂牆上有幾句話：

 “上主慈悲為懷，寬宏大方，緩於發怒，仁愛無量，對待萬有，溫和善良。”(詠：145)

　　「仁慈、憐憫、溫和、開放」的基礎就是慈悲，恐怕也是我們在座每一位這一生都要努力的功課，教宗方濟各也說：「慈悲是一段由心到手的旅程。心與他人的苦難相連結，這就是慈悲。慈悲是當我把他人的苦難或是悲痛的處境放在心上，允許這個處境觸動我的心。」大悲心起，你們的未來世界必然是美好的，因為你們將具備感動人的能力，如此人生才會有成功的機會。若是懶惰不前，貪於享樂只會使生命一事無成；缺乏同情心，只會讓路越走越窄。只有處世無私，愛人以德，尊重生命，別人才會認同你，只有能發揮慈悲與善良的人，他的世界才是美好的。

　　此外，你們也一定要學會自覺，因為自覺念起，才有辦法自省及完全掌控自己。你們要明白一件事，人通常無法掌控別人，也不必掌控別人，但你一定要學會掌控自己，因為自己才是幸福的關鍵。在關鍵時刻，你們一定要學會以清明冷靜，理性善良來面對這個多元和詭變的社會，你們要知道，心急、粗暴是無法解決事情的，那只會帶來更多的問題。惡口、脾氣並無法成事，無法溝通，那只會讓你和你所愛的人越來越遠。遇到挫折別心急，想想你們心中的典範人物，如果也遇到這種情況他會怎麼做？再想想自己可以如何處理。寶貝們一定要選擇一條對的路，哪怕一開始這條路看起來是困難重重，但天主一定會祝福好人。你們要學得更善良、更有自覺性，因為只有自覺和善良的堅持之後，才能克服困難考驗並得到最大的福分。希望你們能培養自己可以帶著走的能力，因為人生的每個一階段都是過去經驗的累積和對未來的準備，不管將來你們想要做什麼，記住要有理想、保持熱情，要胸懷大志、樂觀進取，才能在競爭的道路上跑得更快、走得更遠。惟有把握住每一次自我精進的契機，才能使自己生命更加豐富，最後，容許我代表本校全體教職員工，感謝各位家長對文藻外語大學的信任，使我們有機會跟各位的子弟一起成長、進步，感謝社會各界對文藻的支持與鼓勵，讓我們有豐沛的資源栽培一流的人才，更感謝各位畢業同學過去幾年在這個校園所展現的活力與朝氣，祝福你們畢業快樂，前程似錦，各位來賓身體健康、平安喜樂。

2018 Graduation Ceremony Speech

     Dear, Chairman Ku, teachers, distinguished guests, parents, relatives, friends and graduates. Welcome to today’s graduation ceremony.

 
     Wenzao is the only university in Taiwan that emphasizes foreign languages. We aim to provide students with a holistic education, while achieving linguistic excellence. We hope through our programs the Graduates have acquired wisdom, developed leadership skills and will always serve society. Our Ursuline motto is “Revere the Divine, Love the Human". We focus on the uniqueness of the individual and aim to develop the whole person. We respect personal dignity, accept individuality and hope to stimulate personal potential. As the President of this university, I will continue make it a leading school with the highest of standards. Our teachers strive to develop the most excellent students that will serve our society.

 
     Wenzao has 274 sister schools that are located in 35 countries. Currently, there are foreign students from 29 countries who have chosen Wenzao for either exchanges or degree programs. Amongst the nation's 162 universities, Wenzao has been ranked number five in Taiwan’s most international institutions, ranked only after National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Chiao Tung University and Tamkang University.  Over the last several years Wenzao has gained some prestigious recognition from national magazines’ university rankings. In 2018, Wenzao was honoured in the following magazines:

 
     In Cheers Magazine 2018 Best Universities and Colleges in Taiwan, Wenzao ranked first in world vision and foreign language proficiency, among public and private technological and vocational colleges and universities. It has maintained this honour for 9 years in a row.
 

     Among public and private technological and vocational colleges and universities, our university was ranked first in exchange student programs and second in the number of exchange students.

 
     It was ranked as having the highest reputation surveyed by digital and network presence for private technological and vocational colleges and universities.

 
     Out of Southern Taiwan’s public and private technological and vocational universities and colleges, our university is the second most popular school for enterprises to select from.
 

     From Global Views Monthly’s 2018 Best Universities and Colleges in Taiwan, Wenzao was honoured with the following titles:

 
     Among public and private technological and vocational colleges and universities, which specialize in Humanities and Social Science, Wenzao ranked number one.
 

     Among public and private technological and vocational colleges and universities in Southern Taiwan, it has the highest enrolment and highest enrolment rate of 90%.

 
     According to 1111 Job Bank’s 2018 research, Wenzao was found ranked the highest in employer satisfaction amongst private technological and vocational colleges and universities in Kaohsiung and Pingtung.
 

     However, the school’s achievements do not guarantee your future. I have always called you “precious,” in order to remind you that you are dignified and to drive me to maintain the highest of standards!   But I am worried that you will be facing a society fraught with problems in the future.  As a teacher, I want to remind you of the wisdom that can be seen on the wall in our campus Chapel.
 

     Psalm 145:8-9
 

     The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
 

     The LORD is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works.
 

     Graciousness is based on “kindness, compassion, moderation, and openness”. Take this with you, as you embark on your new life and remember to always work hard. Pope Francis once said, “Graciousness is a journey from heart to hand.  When we reach out and touch others, we do so with compassion, this is true graciousness. When I see another person's misery or grief, I put it in my heart."  Even when you encounter suffering always be compassionate. This will contribute to a beautiful future because you will go out into the world with the ability to move people and therefore find opportunities for success. Remember that laziness and greed will only make life miserable. Only when you devote and care for others, when you have a sense of virtue and integrity, when you respect life, will others relate and identify with you.  Those who can show compassion and kindness will have a more meaningful life and therefore will live a life that is good and filled with peace. You can be selfless, but you also have to learn how to be conscientious and conscious of your destiny.  Only you can change yourself.  Only you can navigate your life and where you want to go with this precious life that has been given to you. And you must also understand that other people don’t have the right to control you. So you must learn to take control of yourself, be in-charge of your life because you are the key to your own happiness.  In difficult times, you must learn to be calm and rational.  Society has become so diverse, so competitive, and sometimes, people forget how to be the good and kind humans.  With all the noise and chaos around you, you must know that being impatient, being irritable or being cruel will not solve problems, it will only bring more problems. Being bad tempered and not knowing how to listen and speak with empathy and compassion will only make you and your loved ones more distant from each other.  Learn to live with love, Love yourself and love others. If you feel frustrated, think of a person that you respect. Then try to think how they would deal with the situation. Then try and handle it from that perspective. Choose the right path, even if it seems difficult at first, God will always bless the good. Make sure you come from a place of kindness, conscientiousness and persistence and you will be able to overcome any difficulty.

 
     Continue cultivating your strengths.  In every stage of your life you will accumulate a great deal of experience, which will prepare you for the future. Always maintain your ideals and enthusiasm. Reach for your dreams with optimism, push yourself forward and be competitive.  Grasp every opportunity for self-improvement and find ways to enrich your lives.

 
     At last, the staff and I would like to thank all the parents for choosing and trusting in Wenzao University of Foreign Languages. It was an honour to teach your children and to watch them grow and improve. I would also like to thank our greater Wenzao community, who has always provided us with support, encouragement and an abundance of resources. It is because of you, we have been able to educate these excellent students.

 
     Graduates, I appreciate the vitality and vigour that you have shown us over the years. I wish you happiness and a bright future. Finally, I hope that everyone leaves here today with blessings, health and happiness.
