Access to scientific and academic literature is currently a topic of intense debate in the scientific community. In recent years, free access to scientific journals have proliferated.  Open access to scientific articles is currently the recommendation of most national and international research councils, and most funding programs for research projects now include the requirement that the results obtained be published in open access. The principle of open access is not in question. However, concerns remain on the part of publishers and authors. This intervention will focus on a reflection on these aspects and will be presented from the vision and experience of an Open Access journal editor and an author who preferably uses this system of knowledge dissemination.

Professor Guillermo Alonso Castaño Pérez is a physician, MGs, PhD, specialist in drug addiction. He currently works as a research professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the CES University in Medellin, Colombia, while continuing to perform medical consultations. Previously, he spent part of his career at the Fundación Universitaria Luis Amigó (FUNLAM) in Medellín as a teacher-researcher, coordinator of a specialization in drug addiction and dependencies, head of a research group on this topic, and director of the trilingual journal Análisis, which specializes in the use and abuse of drugs. Professor Castaño Pérez is the author of more than 100 articles.

Professor María Paulina Pérez Sierra is the editorial coordinator of the journal CES Psicología published by the Universidad CES, Medellín, Colombia (https://revistas.ces.edu.co/index.php/psicologia). The CES Psicología (CES PSICO) journal brings together scientific production from different areas of psychology and is open to interdisciplinary dialogue. The journal presents to the academic and scientific community, every four months, in electronic format and in open access, the results of research and reviews, theoretical or methodological contributions. Professor Pérez Sierra holds a Master's degree in Education and Human Development from CINDE and the University of Manizales, a specialization in publishing from the University of Antioquia and has a background in psychology from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana.
